89-year-old graduates from Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark (KTHV) - Arkansas Tech University welcomed more than a thousand students into alumni status with three graduation ceremonies. One new graduate has quite a bit of life wisdom to offer society.

Eighty nine year old Charlie Ball from North Little Rock received his Bachelors Degree. The former World War II pilot and Arkansas business man just wrapped up studies in public relations. Ball began his education more than 70 years ago at ATU, but it was interrupted by the call of duty.

"It is dangerous business being in the old Army Air Corp, or the Marines or Navy or anything like that," says Ball.

Ball was deployed to England in 1944 as a fighter pilot. Once back home, he studied at ATU and the University of Arkansas and then went into the dry cleaning business with his father. Then Ball switched careers.

Little Rock Fashion Week Announces 2012 Model Search

By Alexandria Washington

LITTLE ROCK – Little Rock Fashion Week is back again to heat up the runways July 16-21. After much success last summer, Brandon D. Campbell, creator and executive producer of LRFW, and staff are ready to roll out the red carpet on its fourth year.

"I’m extremely excited about Little Rock Fashion Week 2012. There’s something magical about this year. I can sense that LRFW will be even greater than previous years,” said Campbell. “People have spoke positively about LRFW and have supported our functions throughout the year. Ever since we wrapped LRFW 2011, last July, I’ve been contacted weekly by models wanting to be in LRFW 2012. That speaks volumes of LRFW’s significance and the amount of love that people have for our industry. I’m grateful.”

AARP joins food drive to 'Stamp Out Hunger'

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AARP Press Release) - To tackle the serious issue of hunger faced by millions of older adults, AARP and AARP Foundation announced that on Sat., May 12, they are joining the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the U.S. Postal Service's 20th annual food drive to help "Stamp Out Hunger."

On the second Saturday in May each year, in America's largest single day food drive, known officially as Stamp Out Hunger, letter carriers across the country pick up bags of non-perishable food products left for them by households on their usual routes-and deliver those donations to local food banks and pantries, such as the Arkansas Foodbank in central Arkansas and other member food banks of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance. To encourage food donations, AARP and AARP Foundation donated food collection bags for distribution in Arkansas.

89-Year Old to Graduate from Arkansas Tech Saturday

89-Year Old to Graduate from Arkansas Tech Saturday

Charlie Ball has made good use of his first 89 years.

He served his country as a World War II fighter pilot. He was successful in business ventures as varied as dry cleaning, real estate and insurance. He has perfect attendance for weekly Kiwanis Club meetings after 62 years with the organization.

He and his wife of 57 years, Dora, raised two sons and have been blessed with five grandchildren.

But there’s one goal that Charlie Ball never achieved --- earning his college degree.

That goal was suddenly within reach a few months ago when Ball saw a television advertisement for the Arkansas Tech University Accelerated Degree Program, which offers individuals with 60 or more transferable credit hours an opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree within 18 months.
